Council hails Heathrow bus route boost

5.57.36pm BST (GMT +0100) Sat 5th Apr 2008

• BUS links to the new Heathrow Terminal 5 have been welcomed by Richmond Council.

Last week the 490 route was extended to Terminals 4 and 5 as part of a package of public transport improvements. The 490 bus now provides a direct link between Richmond and Twickenham town centres and Heathrow. It formerly terminated at Hatton Cross. The improvements follow consultation with key partners, including the Council, which pressed hard for the route to be extended to Heathrow. The 490 is operated by National Express on behalf of Transport for London.

Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for Traffic, Transport and Parking, Cllr David Trigg, said: "We pressed for these improvements and are delighted that they have been introduced following consultation. Any improvements to public transport services for residents in our borough are to be welcomed and this extension to the 490 route enables easy, direct travel to and from the new Terminal 5."
