The £32m rebuild of Teddington School was given the go-ahead by Richmond Council's Planning Committee on Thursday (17 January). Following a three-hour meeting at the school, committee members voted unanimously in favour of the scheme, which promises to deliver one of the most advanced and sustainable schools in the country. Work is set to start this spring with pupils due to move into the new building in early 2010.

Cllr Stephen Knight, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources on Richmond Council, said: "I am thrilled that after two years of hard work, this hugely important scheme has been approved. It will deliver a state-of-the-art building providing superb facilities for nearly 1,200 pupils, as well as one of the most sustainable schools anywhere in the country. The Council is committed to driving up standards in our secondary schools and building programmes such as this are absolutely key. The Council is contributing more than £7m, over and above government funding, to help make the project a reality. We have worked closely with the school, the design team and the community to ensure the rebuilt school provides maximum benefits for local people."
