Borough primary schools stay top of the table7.26.09pm GMT Fri 28th Dec 2007 Primary schools in Richmond upon Thames remain the best in the country in government league tables published on December 6. The news follows a Council pledge of £7m this week to provide additional school places to meet the ever-increasing demand. National results for 11 year olds at Key Stage 2 were released by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, and confirm that borough schools are again top of the table at the higher Level 5 in English, Maths and Science. Councillor Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, said: "We are delighted with our continuing domination of the national league tables. It is a real credit to the pupils, staff and governors, and the leadership of some outstanding head teachers. The results for high-achieving children are outstanding, showing the continuing drive for school improvement. Our aim clearly stated in the Children and Young People's Plan is to pass the 90 per cent threshold for children achieving the national standard. This is a challenging target which we are working hard to achieve with our schools. Our continued success sets a real challenge in the shape of ever increasing demand for places. Up to £7m of Council reserves has been pledged on school expansions and we are working hard to implement a long-term plan that will significantly boost primary places in the borough."
