Healthy lifestyles top the agenda7.19.29pm GMT Fri 28th Dec 2007 A new scheme in which parents are invited to join their children in learning about healthy lifestyles will be launched in the borough in January. "RichFit" is a10-week programme for overweight 8 to14-year-olds and their parents run by Richmond Council's Health Development Team and dieticians from the Richmond and Twickenham Primary Care Trust (PCT). As well as physical activity and sports, sessions will also feature nutritional advice, including information on making healthy meals on a budget and the chance to taste new foods. Cllr Denise Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing on Richmond Council, said: "It is vital young people learn the value of a healthy, active lifestyle from an early age. The benefits stretch far beyond physical well-being, with healthy living improving achievement in the classroom and boosting self-confidence. These courses are an excellent opportunity for parents to work with their children to help them improve their fitness and learn about the importance of a healthy diet. It will continue the excellent partnership between the Council and the PCT and should be great fun for all involved.
