It's Carnival Time!12.18.11pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 15th Jun 2007 Now in its fourth year, Twickenham Carnival returns on Sunday, (June 17) and is bigger and better than ever. Festivities start at 12noon when the parade sets off from York House to travel along Church Street and Twickenham Riverside before arriving at the Carnival Village in the grounds of Orleans House Gallery. Brent Holder and his steel band will provide the sounds of the Caribbean along the route accompanied by the carnival troupes. On arrival of the parade at around 1pm, the Carnival Village will come alive with music from DJs the 'Community Showcase', international music, street dance and drumming workshops. There will be fun for all the family with art activities and mask-making, face painting and carnival story-telling. They will be supported by stalls with international food and refreshments, craft and exhibitions. Famous carnival artist, Carl Gabriel, will also lead an interactive arts project. The carnival draws to a close between 5 and 6pm with a spectacular performance from Brazilian band Quilombo do Samba. The carnival is run by Richmond Council's Arts Service. Cllr Serge Lourie, Leader of the Council, said: "Twickenham Carnival has grown every year and this promises to be the best yet. Local groups and individuals have made an enormous contribution to this year's event, working with renowned artist Carl Gabriel and creating the magnificent costumes and parade floats. I urge everyone to come along and show their support and make sure your outfit is big, bright and colourful for the 'best dressed' competition."
