Drive to safeguard vulnerable adults11.52.04am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 15th Jun 2007 Richmond Council has issued a plea to anyone who suspects possible abuse of vulnerable, elderly residents to "Get in touch - we can protect people." The call was made on the eve of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which falls on Friday 15 June. Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, Cllr Denise Carr, said: "Although the number of cases of elder abuse referred to us is lower than in many other London boroughs, this does not mean that we take the protection of vulnerable adults any less seriously. It is vital that we all remain vigilant. Quite simply, if you are subjected to abuse or suspect a friend or family member is being abused, you should contact us as soon as possible so appropriate action can be taken. All information is treated in strict confidence. We do make a difference and we can protect people. We will always investigate thoroughly any matter referred to us and involve the police where necessary. This special Awareness Day provides a good opportunity to highlight the message."
