Event to showcase volunteering opportunities

2.03.22pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 5th Jun 2007

Volunteers are the backbone of our communities - and this week Richmond Council urged residents to help swell their numbers.

The Council is calling on people to an event showcasing the full range of volunteering opportunities in the borough. Richmond upon Thames Council for Voluntary Service (RCVS), the umbrella body for local voluntary groups, is staging a recruitment day at the Richmond Council-run Sheen Lane Centre on Friday, June 8, from 1pm to 7pm. A diverse range of charities and other groups will highlight volunteering opportunities and explain how people can offer their time and skills to help the local community. The Mayor, Cllr Marc Cranfield-Adams, will be among those attending.

Sir David Williams, Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for Communities, said:

"This borough is blessed with over 200 voluntary organisations devoted to a host of important causes and these groups are always searching for new volunteers to continue and expand their vital work. Richmond Council does all it can to help increase their numbers. Volunteers are the backbone of our communities and I would urge anyone who wants to learn more about what is involved to come to this excellent event."
