Smoothing the path to easy information5.55.10pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 20th May 2007
Richmond Council is making information about its services for people with learning disabilities as easy to access as possible. There are nearly 500 people with learning disabilities in the borough and the Council is determined to ensure information is accessible via booklets and its website in jargon-free, plain English. An "access to services" brochure has been produced, drafted in cooperation with The Easy Information Group, whose members comprise people with a learning disability. Also, information on the Council website has been improved and is now more accessible. Log onto www.richmond.gov.uk/pld for full details. A housing options pack has also been produced. This gives detailed information and advice about housing and support for people with learning disabilities. The Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, Cllr Denise Carr, said: "All our efforts are intended to make access to the full range of services as easy as possible for people with learning disabilities and their carers. The brochure, and the website, are good examples of what we are trying to achieve. We believe passionately that everyone has the right to be included in every aspect of the community so as to ensure their lives are as fulfilling as possible. Information about and access to our services is key to achieving this."
