Dancing pioneers unveil aerial spectacular

5.08.41pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 20th Apr 2007

A pioneering company of disabled and able-bodied performers will stage a thrilling aerial dance display at Hampton Community College on 17 May, as part of Richmond Council's Partners in Dance season.

During the performance the Blue Eyed Soul Dance Company will mix dance, street theatre and circus techniques. In a show called 'Don't Touch Me', dancers with and without disabilities use rigs and harnesses to perform thrilling aerial routines that explore new ways of moving and challenge ideas of strength and fragility. Currently on a nationwide tour, it consists of three pieces choreographed by renowned American Jess Curtis portraying the insecurity of love and relationships.

Cllr John Coombs, Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for the Arts, said:

"I am delighted this groundbreaking company is bringing this fantastic show to our borough. Blue Eyed Soul is one of the foremost exponents of British physical theatre and it will be one of the highlights of the Partners in Dance season, the largest and most inclusive celebration of dance ever staged in Richmond upon Thames."
