The work of school governors was celebrated by Richmond Council at the third annual Governors' Conference held last Thursday, 22 March.

The event, arranged by the Governor Support Team at the Council and staged at Twickenham Rugby Stadium, attracted more than 90 governors from the borough's primary, secondary and special schools. The theme was "Aspirational Governance - speaks for itself" and there were numerous presentations showcasing the ideas and achievements across schools and children's services throughout the borough.

Following the conference, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Education, Cllr Malcolm Eady, said:

"The event was a tremendous success, highlighting a range of outstanding projects being carried out in schools across the borough, reflecting the hard work of head teachers, staff, pupils, parents and, of course, the governors themselves. Much of the work going on in schools is inspirational and I would like to applaud governors for the part they play in improving achievement by pupils. The event underlined the Council's commitment to governors and to providing them with the advice and guidance they need to carry out their very considerable and demanding duties."
