Generation game as school unveils £5m development

12.00.00am GMT Thu 22nd Mar 2007

A "fabulous day to remember" is in store at Collis Primary School in Teddington when the school's £5m development is officially unveiled next week.

Doing the honours at the opening, on Friday March 30, will be the school's youngest pupil, 4 year old Ben Little, and the oldest former pupil able to attend, Nora Fox (nee Morris), who is 81 and has lived in Teddington all her life. Any past pupils, parents and friends are invited to join the opening ceremony at 3.30pm. The original school was built in1866 and had several locations before it moved to its present site in Fairfax Road in 1971. This month's official opening will be one of the biggest days in the school's history. The project has been funded via £3.8m from the DfES and £1.2m from Richmond Council.

Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services, Cllr Malcolm Eady, said:

"This will be a tremendously exciting event. Our primary schools are the best in the country and the development at Collis is a real showpiece which will further enhance this reputation. It has also helped to meet the vital need for additional pupil places in the Teddington area."
