Yvette's hat-trick seals victory for The Vineyard12.00.00am GMT Tue 13th Mar 2007 A hat-trick clinched the title for The Vineyard primary school in the Competitive Edge Primary Schools Girls Football Festival, held at the NPL Sports Club in Teddington on March 9. Yvette Akonta sealed the 3-nil win with her second-half goal spree to help her school become the 2007 large school champions. Archdeacon Cambridge's School in Twickenham were runners-up. Collis and Chase Bridge schools shared the Bronze Medal after a goalless draw. In the small schools final, Sezan Walker scored four times in St Mary's & St Peter's 5-nil win over The Russell School. Barnes won the bronze medal after they beat St John the Baptist School, 1-0, in the third place play-off. The festival was run by Richmond Council's Sports Development Team in partnership with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust. The trophies and medals were presented by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Celia Hodges. The event was staged under the umbrella of Richmond Council's Competitive Edge programme, which has dramatically increased the number of local schoolchildren participating in competitive sport. Richmond Council's Cabinet Member for Sport, Cllr John Coombs, said: "The tournament attracted pupils from 16 schools and provided some thrilling action, including star individual performances. It underlined the huge success of the Competitive Edge initiative in encouraging local pupils to take part in competitive sport. Well done to all who took part, to the NPL Club, who hosted the event, and to Brentford FC for running some highly successful coaching workshops."
