Local councillor attacks extensive extension to licensing hours

3.01.44pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 17th Aug 2005

Cllr Martin Elengorn draws attention to the excessive hours being applied for in the recent round of licensing applications

He said "Councillors are being inundated by protests from residents about the unreasonable hours being applied for. One extreme example in Teddington (though not the only one) is for the Builders Arms in Field Lane, Teddington, where opening till 3 a.m. at weekends and 1.30 a.m. on other nights is being applied for. This pub is in the middle of a tightly knit network of narrow residential roads within feet of houses on all sides. It is totally unreasonable to expect residents to put up with the noise that would be generated at these late hours and I do hope that the applicants will modify their application before the hearing."
