Kramers Takes Up Road Safety Issue On The A3167.56.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 25th Oct 2004 Transport for London has been persuaded to tackle the issue of speeding cars at the Pagoda Avenue crossing in Richmond by Susan Kramer. Susan Kramer, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Richmond Park has been pressing for action for some time along with local residents. Susan said: "TfL has agreed that the accident rates on the road are unacceptable. "I have met with the TfL Safety Unit to confirm that a survey of the road is now complete and that work will start before the end of the year to improve visibility for both cars and pedestrians and to make the road surface less slippery in wet weather. "With the darker mornings and the clocks changing it is particularly important that school children are protected from the dangers of speeding cars at this busy point. "I wish the action could happen right now but it is heartening that some steps are being taken to improve safety at Pagoda Avenue. "It's a shame the current rules only allow TfL to use flashing lights to remind drivers of a 30 mph limit for a fixed time. "Ideally these should be a permanent feature for enhancing safety." Notes There were 37 accidents at this spot for the 36-month period ending March 2004. Data from London Accident Analysis Unit. This includes one fatality in the period April 2002 - March 2003.
