Council Moves To Scrap Redundant Signs and Yellow Lines10.12.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 16th Aug 2004 Richmond Council is calling time on redundant or confusing street signs - and unnecessary yellow lines. Following an audit of signs along Richmond Road, Twickenham, a considerable number of unnecessary signs have been scrapped. In some locations two signs have been replaced by one. Signs have been removed from posts and relocated on lamp columns. Other signs have been cleaned and straightened, and redundant lighting units removed. This marks the start of a major review of street signs throughout the borough. It is all part of an effort to improve the overall look of the street scene and reduce clutter in line with the Council's ongoing Civic Pride programme. Also, a review of all waiting and loading restrictions is being carried out. And residents who believe yellow lines could be removed in some locations to allow safer parking or loading, should tell the Council. Lib Dem Teddington Councillor, Martin Elengorn said, "While this sort of housekeeping job has its value, I do wonder whether it is best use of our transport officers' valuable time, given the greater priority of maintaining the momentum of traffic accident reduction and improving conditions for public transport".
