London Needs More Police, Not More Initiatives

7.15.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Jul 2004

Commenting on yet another crime initiative launched by the Home Office today Simon Hughes Liberal Democrat London Spokesman, said: "London doesn't need five more initiatives a month. London needs more police, more community support officers, more neighbourhood wardens and more constructive activities for young people to do.

"People who damage our community should be made to repair them in broad daylight so the community knows who they are. The effects in Southwark in the last two years have shown that the right policies reduce crime. We need more of the policies that succeed."
