It Maybe May But Why Not Norris?

1.27.00pm GMT Wed 24th Mar 2004

Liberal Democrat London Mayoral candidate, Simon Hughes, today expressed surprise that it was Tory Transport Secretary Theresa May and not Tory Mayoral candidate Steve Norris who was commenting on the proposal from the Mayor that rail services should be integrated into Transport for London.

Mr Hughes said:- "Once again we have seen there is an obvious and direct conflict of interest between Mr Norris as candidate role as candidate for London Mayor and his role of Chief Executive of Jarvis. It has once again prevented Mr Norris making any objective comments on public transport issues despite this being one of the key responsibilities of the London Mayor."

"I hope at even this late stage Mr Norris will accept that this is a direct clash of interest not just in theory but in practice."
