This week Jenny Tonge MP, and Susan Kramer, Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Richmond Park, joined a new campaign led by Coombe Vale Cllr Julie Haines to encourage residents in the Coombe Wards to support improvements being made to the environment in their area. The scheme is the product of the Maldens and Coombe Neighbourhood Committee of which Cllr Haines is Co chair. Cllr Haines said; "This year (2003/4) a total of 66 trees were planted by the Committee in the Coombe Wards and a total of 203 in the Maldens and Coombe Neighbourhood. In order to ensure the long term success of the scheme it is vital that local people are aware of and are willing to help us with the improvements we are making." Susan Kramer PPC added; "The efforts being made by the Maldens and Coombe Neighbourhood Committee to plant new trees in the Coombe wards is something I am sure most residents will welcome. We will shortly be conducting a street survey in the area to encourage local people to help with the scheme. Anyone wishing to get involved should contact Councillor Julie Haines on 020 8395 0202." Notes for editors: Anyone wishing to help can either sponsor a tree for £150, or alternatively volunteer to water a newly planted tree once a week in the summer. To register for either of these schemes please contact Cllr Julie Haines on 020 8395 0202.
