Commenting on the news that Conservative candidate for London Mayor Steven Norris is to be the interim Chief Executive of the engineering firm Jarvis, Liberal Democrat Mayoral candidate Simon Hughes MP said: "There is an obvious and direct conflict of interest for Mr Norris being a candidate for London Mayor and Chief Executive of Jarvis. It will prevent Mr Norris making any critical comments on any Tube issues despite this being one of the key responsibilities of the London Mayor."

"I hope at even this late stage Mr Norris will accept that this is a direct clash of interest not just in theory but in practice. He must now decide which job he most wants to do."
