Hampton Wick Protest over Protruding Portacabin

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 20th May 2003

A group of residents in Fairfax Road, Hampton Wick, is protesting over a portacabin attached to a new development which is disrupting life in the area. They have involved MP Vincent Cable in their protest.

Vincent Cable said: although this does not appear a major issue, it is an example of the arrogant way in which developers treat the local environment and residents. The building work is one of the many "infill" housing developments which the council is allowing.

The developers are supposed to abide by certain licence conditions such as maintaining a pathway for pedestrians and lights to prevent accidents at night. They have cheerfully ignored them. I have written to the council asking them to be more attentive and consistent in the way they police developers on building projects.
