Cllr Serge Lourie, Leader of the Liberal Democrat opposition on Richmond Council has reacted angrily to the proposal from BAA to build another runway at Heathrow.

"At the time of the Terminal Five public enquiry at which I gave evidence, BAA pledged that they would not propose a further runway. I suppose local residents should not have been surprised as they said they would not build a fifth terminal when they were getting consent for Terminal Four."

"This is a matter on which all local residents must join together. Nor must we lose sight of the fact that we must ensure that night flights are stopped as well as making certain that runway alternation is not scrapped."
