The armed forces minister Lewis Moonie has written to MP Vincent Cable confirming that Kneller Hall is NOT being considered for accommodation for asylum seekers.

There is now formal confirmation that the recent rumour was just that: an unfounded rumour.

Vincent Cable said: "I hope this letter will set people's minds at rest in Whitton where the rumour originated. "

"It also demonstrates the shallowness of the council leader who took the rumours seriously without bothering to check the facts".

"Asylum has become a highly emotional issue and it is important that we should all look at the issues in a calm and rational way and not be carried away by rumour mongering".
