TONGE VISITS BARNES RUGBY CLUB12.00.00am GMT Tue 4th Mar 2003 Dr Jenny Tonge, MP for Richmond Park, visited Barnes Rugby Club on Saturday March 1st to help the club celebrate its winning of a grant from Sportsmatch. The grant will help the club promote sport and fitness - but particularly rugby – in a wide range of local and inner city schools. Dr Tonge – a keen rugby fan – posed for the local press in front of a buge blow-up of the cheque. She said: "I am delighted that Barnes Rugby Club has won this money from Sportsmatch." "They are going to spend it on promoting rugby in inner city schools. I am all for this – young people who play rugby, apart from getting fit and learning sportsmanship, are usually far too tired after a game to go getting up to no good!"
