Community Mosaic Workshop

12.00.00am GMT Mon 11th Nov 2002

On Friday 8th November Jenny Tonge MP went to the Welsh Hall in Elm Road to lay a piece of mosaic which will be erected in Kingston Station underpass.

The project, organised by the Save the World Club, is something Jenny Tonge has warmly welcomed as a way to replace graffitti with art. Dr Tonge said, "There has been a very positive response from the community to projects being organised by the Save the World Club to deal with graffitti."

"By involving many local youths, some of whom had been responsible for the graffitti in the first place, this project has succeeded where others have failed, since it is helping to restore a real sense of community."

"I am delighted to have visited the centre, and very much enjoyed meeting local volunteers of all ages who have been working on the project".

To volunteer for future community mosaic workshops you can call the Save the World Club on 0208 974 8608.
