NO to third runway say local Lib Dems

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 2nd Oct 2002

On Saturday 28th Sept, Lib Dem campaigners took to the streets to campaign against the 3rd Runway.

They collected hundreds of signatures from concerned local residents.

Speaking at a fringe meeting at the Brighton Party Conference, Jenny Tonge expressed her concerns on the subject.

Jenny Tonge said, "Some people feel that a major collision may happen some day. There have already been a number of near misses since the introduction of the new air traffic control system. A Third Runway will bring more pollution and danger to our skies."

"We need to predict and prescribe, not predict and provide. Air traffic expansion is simply not sustainable at its current rate. We need to look into alternative ways of limiting expansion, including a tax on aviation fuel, and higher airport tax.".

You can now sign Jenny's petition against the 3rd Runway online at www.jennytonge.org.uk or by text message (txt your name and address to 07957 550354).
