REACTION TO THE VENUE LICENSING DECISION

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Tue 10th Sep 2002

Vincent Cable MP expressed "delight" that the council licensing committee refused an entertainment license to the proprietors after a hearing last Thursday.

He was a witness speaking in support of the residents who wanted the license refused: "the endless episodes of vandalism, noise and violence in the early hours had reached a point where the club simply had to stop."

"There has been trouble there for years but incidents like the biting off of the DJ's nose underlined the fundamentally unsavoury nature of the operation. It simply did not belong in a quite residential area."
