How You Can Help:
EMMA Saunders writes: 'Are you able to spare some time over the next few weeks to help us continue our success in Richmond Park and North Kingston?
|
Advance notice - big clerical job on easter weekend: I also want to let you know that we will have a big clerical job on Easter weekend (2nd to 5th April) at the office 42 Upper Richmond Road West. On this weekend we will be stuffing thousands of envelopes for the election freepost - and we need lots of people to keep that weekend free to come in and help. Please do put it in your diary now
|
• Weekend campaigning: Mark Weston writes: This Saturday is another Action Day for Sheen Ward. Between 10.30 am and 4.30 pm we will be using my house at Lightleap, 38 Stonehill Road as a base to canvass the rest of the roads nearby. Although we recognize that there will also be a major canvassing effort in Canbury we would be grateful to have some extra support from other wards to help us complete our canvassing in our local area.
|
You will be very welcome even if you can only spare an hour or two during the day and light refreshments will be provided! To find my house aim for the bottom end of Stonehill Road where it joins Enmore Gardens and Clarelawn Avenue. Look for the red driveway and the sign for Lightleap next to the front door.
|
• Telephone Canvassing: For those who are not able to door knock, we have six phone lines available for telephone canvassing in the office. We provide full training and scripts.
• Clerical Work: Finally, just a quick reminder that the office is now open Monday to Friday from 10 am onwards for clerical work - at the moment we are working on blue letters but also have some envelope stuffing. Please do come along for a warm welcome. I hope to see you at some point over the weekend if not before.
Thanks . . '

• [Mar 04] David Heath (Somerton & Frome, Liberal Democrat): ' . . MOST importantly, I hope that amendment (a) is passed. This is the key vote to give control of the timetable of debate in the House back to Members of the House, taking it away from the Executive. If we cannot achieve that, we will have failed as a House in our debates on this matter. I hope that the House is up to the task of agreeing to amendment (a) today . . ' [It was!]

Sun 7th Mar 2010
• Sarah Teather (Brent East, Liberal Democrat): ' . . I WISH that housing were a greater political issue during the election. I am grateful for Shelter's campaign ahead of the election to raise awareness of the issue, but encouraging people who are in deep housing need and misery to vote is perhaps the most important thing that it can do. The Government have failed significantly to provide affordable housing for my constituents, and I have no faith in the Conservative party's ability to provide for them. I desperately wish that people in housing need would shout louder now. Prospective Governments might then listen to them in the run-up to the election when they are looking for votes.

• [Mar 01] Christopher Huhne (Eastleigh, Liberal Democrat): ' . . THE Liberal party's position on control orders is well known, and it has not changed over the past year. They are a violation of fundamental rights and an expensive failure to boot. What has changed is the Government's legal problem. The control order regime has been dealt a major blow by the House of Lords judgment in the case of the Secretary of State for the Home Department v. AF, in which nine Law Lords were unanimous in their view that failure to disclose adequate details of the case against people subject to control orders breached their right to a fair trial under article 6 of the European convention on human rights . .
